Health Matters

Health Matters

Good health can be described as “A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

The truth is, that the bottom line as far as your health is concerned is that no matter who you are, how old you are or what you currently do in your work or leisure, your health is the single most important area of your life – the number one priority in relation to your success in all other areas of your life.

This is quite simply because it underpins everything else you do, and will ultimately determine the quality of the results you achieve and the quality of life you enjoy.

Although poor health isn’t something we would actively choose for ourselves, it’s something we can be insidiously drawn into. This can happen in 2 ways: firstly we now live in a society where fast food, takeaways and highly processed junk food are the norm in many people’s diets, and leisure activities have become increasingly sedentary with the huge advances in technology, such as the pc and gaming machines.

Secondly, because we are all essentially creatures of comfort, bad habits are easier to form than good habits! So unless we are really disciplined with ourselves, and actively manage our ongoing health habits, we can find ourselves slipping into poor health and general unfitness just through the poor lifestyle decisions we make on a daily basis. And these don’t have to be monumental, earth shattering decisions, just a succession of small but poor choices, which add up to make a big difference in the long run, such as too much salt, too much fat, too much sugar, and little or no regular exercise.

Although this may sound rather gloomy, the fact is you can do something about your own health habits – you can reduce the risks and you can tip the odds in your favour… But remember that prevention, just like the causes, are the result of little things repeated over and over for a significant period of time. So whilst bad habits may not seem significant today, they are like a time bomb ticking away inside. When it comes to your health, or lack of it, just remember, everything counts!
