When we stop to consider our own personal development in life, it is easy to think of it in one of 3 ways:
But the truth is, standing still is in effect moving backwards. This is because whether we choose to notice or not, the world around us continues to develop and move forward. As John Ciardi said, "The day will happen whether or not you get up."
And yet so many people fail to grasp this fundamental fact – they complete their education in their early 20’s and assume that that’s it as far as their personal learning and development is concerned. Of course, they may continue to learn new things as they enter the world of work, and if they are really lucky and work for a company who invests in it’s staff, they may receive further vocational training, but they stop actively educating themselves as they move through their lives.
Now it is estimated that human knowledge doubles every ten years, or to put it another way, whatever body of knowledge you studied at college or university will have doubled in just 10 years after you leave. This means that continual learning is vital in some cases just to keep up in your chosen field, let alone to get ahead!
However, the good news, according to self development guru, Brian Tracy, is that vitually anyone can become a recognised expert in their field in a matter of just a couple of years, through reading, study and the proper application of the knowlegde acquired…
So do you prioritise your continued education and personal development, along with your health, your realtionships, your finances, or whatever else you consider to be important in your life?
