Almost all of us, at some point in our lives will be called upon to make a speech, or give some kind of presentation.
Maybe at a wedding perhaps; accepting an award of some kind, or through the course of our daily jobs.
And for most of us it proves to be a nerve-racking and unpleasant experience. In fact, in one survey carried out in the States, the fear of public speaking ranked higher than the fear of death amongst the respondents!!
So what makes a great communicator, and what exactly is it that sets them apart from the crowd?
If you were asked to choose the greatest speech of all time, who would you pick and why?
For me, I would pick two particular speeches to share my number one, and despite all the media technology we have today and the “sound bite” culture we live in, both of them were made more than 40 years ago.
My choices would be Winston Churchill’s “Fight them on the Beaches” and Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream”.
Here’s hoping they inspire you to great things in your next speech!
