The Invitation
The desire to do good in the world; to leave ones mark and to leave a lasting legacy is a powerful motivator in many peoples lives.
But it’s said that you can’t help the poor by becoming one of them, and that you can never love another any more than you truly love yourself.
So what does this mean? Simply that in our endeavours to love and to help others we need to first begin with ourselves.
We need to find peace and love in our own corner of the world before we can extend that love and peace to others.
This sense of “oneness”; of being totally true to oneself, and by doing so, bringing joy to others is beautifully expressed in a poem called “The Invitation”, by Canadian author and teacher Oriah Mountain Dreamer.
